Dropped ceiling removed
The living room had a dropped tile ceiling that was already falling down in some places, so we knew it had to be one of the first things to go. We started the process on Saturday morning and had the entire ceiling - lathe, plaster and all - removed and bagged by Saturday night. Erik took the tiles off individually and I bagged them. Then, once the tiles were gone we prepped for the plaster. We hung sheets of painters plastic in all the doorways to the living room and on th

Gas heater removed
There was an old industrial heater in the front living room when we first moved in. Honestly, it seemed like a pretty serious fire hazard. The good news is it was hooked up to a gas line, which means there is an opportunity to install a gas fireplace! #renovation #demolition #fireplace

Carpet and particle board gone
Today I came home once again to another surprise - Erik had taken out the old carpet upstairs and started tearing up the particle board. It's already starting to look better! As you can see in the pictures, the hallway closet and first bedroom had matching carpet and hot pink/lime walls. What you can't tell from the pictures is the smell in the hallway and bedroom. Carpet removed
I came home from work today to find that Erik had already started tackling our first project - taking out the carpet from the downstairs bedroom/study. We had been curious if hardwood was hiding underneath and as soon as Erik got a peek of it, the carpet was gone! Gorgeous (and very old!) hardwood was what is left. We are hoping to be able to refinish this along with the living room floor. #renovation #flooring #hardwood #bedroom #office

We're home!!
After a very long purchasing process we are now home-owners! We have big plans for updates and a lot of work ahead of us, but we couldn't be more excited! (Erik also proposed and made this an extra memorable occasion - quite the romantic!) Our first move-in task was to stock the fridge with the essentials - can you tell where we're from? We look forward to sharing the updating and remodeling process - and share the definite lessons along the way. Welcome to our home! #reno
